Pre-assembled Machine Setup

For customers who received a fully pre-assembled PikkoBot. If you have a kit, go to Kit Assembly.

1. Unboxing

  1. Lift the machine out of the foam by the frame, not by the gantry rails.
  2. Verify the packing list: 24V power supply + cable, USB-B cable, two USB-A camera cables, air tubing (6mm OD), spare JUKI CP40 nozzles, USB drive with config files.
Do not power on before completing the inspection in step 2. Shipping vibration can loosen connectors.

Keep the foam inserts until the machine has homed successfully at least once. If something turns out to be wrong, they're the only way to ship it safely.

2. Inspection

  • Stepper motor cables seated: X, Y1, Y2, Z, rotation (5 total)
  • Top and bottom camera USB cables connected to the mainboard
  • Pneumatic tubing connected to both nozzle heads, no kinks
  • Staging plate flat, PCB rails adjusted to PCB width
  • Endstop switches free (no debris blocking)

Two more checks that aren't on the packing list but catch most shipping damage:

  • Rock the gantry gently by hand. It should move with light resistance and no clunking. A clunk means a V-wheel eccentric spacer loosened in transit.
  • Check both nozzles are at the same height. Lower the head by hand until the nozzles are just above the datum board and look along them. They ship level; if they don't arrive level, level them before the first home.

3. Connect to Computer

  1. Plug the mainboard USB-B into your computer.
  2. Plug both camera USB-A cables into your computer.
  3. Connect the 24 V power supply and flip the switch — the ring LEDs should illuminate.

Plug the two cameras into different USB controllers where possible. On most laptops that means one port on each side. Both cameras on the same controller is a common cause of the top camera stuttering at high resolution.

4. Install Software

Continue with Software Setup to install OpenPnP and load the pre-tuned configuration. The configuration files themselves are on the Downloads page — take the JUKI variant unless you've swapped nozzles.

5. First Job

Before running a real board:

  1. Home the machine and confirm both nozzle tips are level first — see Homing & Fiducial.
  2. Load a single feeder with scrap tape and step a component into the pick window.
  3. Set the pick height for that feeder and write the value down.
  4. Place one component on a scrap board and check it lands where the outline says.
  5. Then load the real job.

If Something Is Wrong Out of the Box

  • Machine moves but placement is consistently offset → run MM/Pixel Calibration
  • OpenPnP throws pressure sensor or vacuum errors → expected on the Vertex 4, see the FAQ
  • Valves don't open during a job but work from the Debug panel → also covered in the FAQ
  • Feeder not detected after mounting → Feeder Overview

Email [email protected] if none of those match what you're seeing.
